Crafting a Decade Roadmap: Vision, Mission, and Values for a Purposeful Future
I thrive with structure. Therefore I’m always looking for good frameworks and models for self-development and self-improvement.
The “decade roadmap” exercise is something I’ve developed to help me create a clear, structured path to achieve my personal and professional goals. I found it a great way to allow me to think in the bigger picture whilst aligning my day-to-day life with where I want to be in ten years.
To create this roadmap, I reverse-engineered the next decade, envisioning in as much detail as possible what a day in 2034 will look like for me. From there, I structured my thoughts by answering three simple but profound questions.
1. What’s My Vision for Life?
Example: I envision a future where I achieve a balance between work and family while leaving room for continuous growth.
This vision serves as my North Star, guiding every decision and action. It’s about creating a life where professional success and personal fulfillment coexist harmoniously.
2. What Mission Moves Me Closer to My Vision?
To break down this vision into actionable steps, I asked myself:
